Meet Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary
Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary is a neurologist and neuroscientist, published author and researcher, internationally recognized expert in Ayurvedic medicine, and sought-after educator, public speaker, and healer. This rare combination of expertise gives her a truly unique perspective on health and healing that has helped thousands of people feel better and achieve health goals they never thought possible. She is passionate about raising awareness for the need of a paradigm shift in contemporary medicine that focuses on patient empowerment and a wellness-based (rather than disease-based) medical system.
This shift first and foremost revolves around re-establishing connections…a bridge between conventional and Ayurvedic medicine, science and ancient wisdom, education and intuition, and, most importantly, the brain and the gut. By teaching these connections and serving as a bridge herself, Dr. Chaudhary gently guides her patients and followers towards a better state of balance and a new way of healing.
The Gut and Brain—Understanding Their Connection
In Ayurveda, health is defined as a state of balance between the body, mind, and spirit. Meditation, which since the age of 9 has been a regular daily practice for Dr. Chaudhary, is a fundamental component to maintaining this balance as is the powerful connection between your gut and brain. Health, Dr. Chaudhary believes, starts not just “in” the gut as many doctors have come to recognize, but by embracing the Ayurvedic axiom that the gut and the brain are one functional unit. This singular gut-brain axis impacts everything in your body, physically and mentally, and therefore any treatments or wellness interventions must address them both simultaneously.
Dr. Chaudhary saw the power of this integrative approach firsthand in her neurological practice in California. Instead of just prescribing medications to her patients, Dr. Chaudhary also began looking closely at their diet, digestive health, and overall level of stress and anxiety as well as family history’s medical history. Her “prescriptions” centered around the use of nourishing foods, healing and restorative herbs, and daily meditation—all of which helped to fill nutritional gaps and correct the imbalances that were causing so much discomfort and illness. The results were nothing short of amazing! Her patients started using fewer medications, their neurological symptoms improved, and they expressed a newfound sense of hope and motivation.
At the same time, she noticed how even her most dedicated patients were struggling to change their diet. While doing more and more research into the connection between the gut microbiome and brain, she had her “Eureka” moment: The struggle didn’t stem from having a lack of information or willpower to make the necessary changes, but from biochemical imbalances in the brain and gut that sabotaged their efforts!
These biochemical imbalances grew from the toxic chemical overload in our food and environment that actually created food addictions that were working against their efforts to make changes. The accumulation of toxins damaged the healthy gut-brain connection, impacting their food choices. So what better way to fight biochemistry than with biochemistry? This is how Dr. Chaudhary created her program The Prime: Prepare and Repair Your Body for Spontaneous Weight Loss, which later became her first book.
In The Prime, she teaches readers how to overcome those biochemical imbalances that make any type of change, especially dietary, so difficult. As she implemented this program with her patients, not only did she see further improvement with their neurological conditions, but they also started to experience weight loss, and not just a little weight but a whole lot of unhealthy weight.
With such incredible results in front of her, Dr. Chaudhary was compelled to create an online version of The Prime so even more people could learn about and benefit from this simple yet powerful program, one that has helped thousands of people all over the world achieve previously unattainable health goals.
Ayurveda for the Modern Lifestyle
Today Dr. Chaudhary has a deeper appreciation for the intention behind any medical intervention, whether it’s from a natural lifestyle approach or a pharmacological approach. "All physicians go into medicine to help alleviate the pain and suffering of their patients, but we may choose different paths to get there," she says. "The commitment to becoming a physician is so big and everyone takes that long journey because their intention is to heal. One lesson I’ve learned from Ayurveda and from studying the science of meditation is that intention is extremely powerful and a physician’s intention to help is as powerful as any prescription she may give."
Ayurveda sees the body, mind, and spirit and treats with a holistic approach to health. By bridging the wisdom of Ayurveda and the research and science of neurology, Dr. Chaudhary provides a way towards balancing these three states for health and happiness.
